Celeb podcasts and Chicagoans to show you around the Windy City

Chicago is offering innovative new ways discover the delights of the Windy City.

The Chicago and Illinois Tourist Office is launching a series of free celebrity podcast guides for British visitors.

Part of the state’s new My Chicago campaign, the guides cover fashion, the arts and special events and illustrates to visitors how to get the best out of their visit.

Designed to help international travellers get under the skin of the city’s attractions with inside information from local experts, the first guide features Melissa Turner, an expert ‘fashionista’ and Chicago director of fashion arts and events, who highlights the city’s best shopping experiences and offers a podcast walking tour of the best shops in town.

Additional Chicago celebrities and lifestyle gurus are being recruited to produce additional personal guides to what’s hot on Chicago’s music, theatre, dining and architecture scenes.

If you would prefer to discover Chicago from the inside how about letting Chicagoans show you around. The Chicago Office of Tourism invites visitors to meet Chicagoans and experience the new Chicago Greeter service. Chicago Greeter is a volunteer-based service that gives Chicagoans a chance to show visitors their favorite things about the city. Through this new service, visitors will meet a greeter that will take them around the city, demonstrate its walkability and the user-friendliness of its public transportation system. This service provides visitors with a Chicago experience from a local’s perspective.

Chicago Greeter is designed to match a friendly, enthusiastic, and city-wise local with an interested visitor for a two-four hour informal, insider orientation to Chicago’s sights, similar to New York’s Big Apple Greeter and Australia’s Melbourne Greeters and Adelaide Greeters visitor services. More than 100 Chicago Greeter volunteers speak 13 different languages. The Chicago Greeter registration system will match greeters with visitors based on language and interest. Visit the website
