I didn’t know were to go in my next vacation. I was thinking to visit Europe but after I’ve seen this comments I’m sure that I want to visit this place.
Oliver,
We have now returned from our trip and would like to offer some feedback for you.
Departure flight left on time and the upgrade to world traveler plus was well worth the money. Transfer at Los Angeles to terminal one was a bit fraught as it is a long walk and the bags took forever to arrive at the baggage reclaim. However we arrived in time and made the connection to the US Airways flight. It was on a very small jet and thankfully the journey was not long as it was full.
Transfer to Treasure Island was no problem; the Taxi system at Las Vegas is very organized. Our room was wonderful as we had a view from the top floor directly up the strip. Great views both day and night. Vegas was an interesting place and we took in a show and a trip to the Grand Canyon, both excellent.
Flight to Oahu was a little disappointing as we were seated at the rear of the plane and were left with no options when the meal was served. The Hawaiian Airways promotional data played heavily on their award winning cuisine but we had to make do with a turkey sandwich, but other than that the flight was fine. Our arrival in Oahu was disorganized as the VIP transfer people seemed to have difficulty in working out how many people they expecting and which order they would drop us off. After much re-arranging of luggage we finally got under way but then hit rush hour. All in all it took 2 hours to get from the baggage hall to the hotel and we were not the last persons to be dropped off. Our hotel was great. It didn’t have the splendor of the 5 star plus places on the Waikiki front but we found the rooms comfortable, the staff friendly and the position (right on the beach) perfect. Being at the quiet end of the beach was ideal and it only took 10 minutes to walk into the centre of Waikiki. The trip to Pearl Harbour and City Tour was interesting and informative. The driver was knowledgeable and helpful, and the company had rung us a couple of days previously to re-arrange the date as there was a procession due on our booked day. All carried out with the minimum of fuss.
The transfer to Maui went smoothly until we had to pick up our transport to the hotel with Speedy Shuttle. We found their office and handed our tickets in and they advised they would call us when our shuttle arrived. We waited and waited. People came after us and got collected before us and we were becoming frustrated. There were people bound for the same hotel who had been waiting for 15 minutes prior to us arriving. After about 45 minutes some more people heading to Kaanapali Beach arrived from another flight and 10 minutes or so after that our shuttle arrived. They were obviously consolidating the passengers but it would have been helpful if the office staff had advised us of this rather than leaving us waiting. I found out later that Speedy Shuttles promise is you will not have to wait for more than 30 minutes, well some passengers on that shuttle were waiting twice that length of time.
Kaanapali Beach hotel was great. Facilities were excellent, staff also. Room was very comfortable though we did not spend a great deal of time in it. A lot quieter than Oahu but very enjoyable all the same. Hawaii was an experience which we found very enjoyable and well worth the long journey to see.
Our Hawaiian Airways flight to San Francisco was also a little disappointing for the same reason as our flight to Oahu. I assume that this part of our trip was part of a package deal as, again, we were at the rear of the aircraft and we were one of the first to book in. Our ticket would not be accepted by the online booking system so we did not have the opportunity to change our seats but other than this little upset the flight was fine.
San Francisco was very different from the laid back culture of Hawaii but exciting in itself. We crammed in a lot of sightseeing in the two days we had there and did the Cable Car and Alcatraz. The weather put on its best show for us; we did not see a cloud in the sky the whole time we were there. Hotel was great, though we did not spend any time at all in it. The position was great with access to the city attractions less than two blocks away. All in all a full and enjoyable stay.
If we were to do the same trip again I think we would sacrifice a couple of nights in Hawaii for a further couple of nights in San Francisco and/or Las Vegas but other than that it was an excellent itinerary and thank you for putting it together for us. If and when we wish to return to the US on holiday we will certainly return to you for assistance.
Again many thanks and best regards,
Alan
