How did you get into the travel industry?
Applied to an advertisement in the Leicester Mercury to work in the newly formed 'North American' specialist division of Millington Travel in Leicester back in 1986.
When did you join CNA?
Started the business with Duncan Harwood, fellow Director in August 1999 having already spent previous years working in the same area of the travel industry.
What's the best trip you have ever been on?
For the experience ~ 'Heli Hiking' in Western Canada
Where would you most like to go next and why?
King Pacific Lodge in BC, Clayoquot Wilderness Resort in BC, Sundance Resort in Utah, or Amangani Resort in Wyoming ~ to simply seek a little solitude and be closer to animals & nature, whilst enjoying the spoils that all of these places offer the discerning traveller.
What are your 3 most important items when travelling to North America?
Passport. driving licence, credit card ~ & imagination helps too.
What are your 3 favourite hotels that you have stayed at in North America?
The Mark in NYC, The Ritz Carlton Hotel in Laguna Niguel, CA & The Inn at Perry Cabin in St.Michaels Maryland
What are your top 3 tips for travellers to North America?
Be prepared to be receptive to the different culture/way of life that the majority of places in North America will offer you ~ most of which is/are relatively positive. From a practical point of view always carry your passport, driving licence (or other form of ID) & credit card with you. Be prepared for early mornings and early nights once you leave the major metropolitan areas ~ the general unwritten rule is to rise early & 'seize the day'.
What interests do you have away from work?
Rugby Union ~ season ticket holder at Leicester Tigers, cycling, running/walking, an interest/member and participating in 'Born Free' activities and welfare of animals generally, photography and 'still' watching Inspector Morse repeats!
