Perhaps the single most exhilarating travel experience I have had was my visit to the Bugaboo Lodge in British Columbia. You adventure starts when you board a helicopter at the foot of the mountains to take you the short distance up to the lodge. On arrival the surrounding scenery is jaw dropping. The wilderness style lodge combines traditional comforts with modern facilities but lets be clear we are not here for the lodge it's what lies further afield in the mountains that draws everyone from the rank beginner to the seasoned hikers to these parts. 
We are soon all split into groups according the our ability and desire for challenge so please believe me when I say you should not be put off thinking you have to be some kind of athlete, you don't, you just have to have a little desire for adventure in your spirit.
We head out with poles and equipment provided by the lodge and me being me I've thrown myself in at the deep end and gone for the more challenging of groups. Thehelicopter whisks us away to a plateau high in the mountains where we are dropped off and begin our hike with Roco, a true Austrian born mountain man! As we have travelled in spring the areas we are hiking in are still snow covered and we have to work our way through deep snow and up quite challenging inclines. We make our way along small trails, all of us linked by rope to Roco. Soon the helicopter returns and takes us to a new hiking point where we follow in Roco's footsteps as we cross a mountain glacier, we must follow his footsteps as he knows where not to walk so avoiding the crevasses that hide beneath the snow cover.
I have not real words to describe the serene beauty of these mountains seemingly untouched by human development, that in itself seems such an incredibly rewarding privilege but it all started to sink in when we returned to the lodge for the evening and I sat on the veranda gazing up at the mountain glacier with a beer in my hand - Grinning like a Cheshire cat I kept asking myself - Wow did I really just do that?
