Generally speaking South Carolina experiences a milder climate year round due to the protection offered from the Appalachian Mountains to the West. The southern location makes for warm summers but with a pleasant coastal breeze. In the height of summer on particularly warm days afternoon thunderstorms are not uncommon.
As you venture to the mountain area, temperatures are likely to drop notably though in summer it should still be very pleasant. However mountain weather is unpredictable and layered clothing is the best and most versatile attire to wear.
