Named in 1513 as La Florida, Florida’s name originally meant ‘Land of Flowers’. The state’s nickname is ‘The Sunshine State’ .
South Florida and the Florida Keys experiences a true tropical climate while further north is classed as ‘humid subtropical’. Even in the winter months temperatures average at about 20C in Miami. In the summer the whole state will likely be consistently 30C.
Best time to visit
Hurricane season is at its peak from August to October, so these months are probably the best to avoid, but because ‘The Sunshine State’ is a consistently warm state it shouldn’t have any impact on your Florida holidays going at any other time.
